GIS Software Developers

Description

Experienced full time developers are wanted for a great opportunity with our well established oil and gas mapping firm. The primary focus of this position shall be the development of new applications and the support and maintenance of existing custom programs and workflows. The successful candidate shall develop desktop and web-based GIS applications for a range for product and service lines. The candidate will participate in gathering requirements, designing and developing applications and relational databases, conduct testing, assist with implementations and provide implementation support, as well as prepare technical documentation.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Earth Science, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience with application development practices, database programming and information management software tools for desktop applications, web applications and enterprise-level systems.
  • Experience developing ESRI map applications (ArcGIS Server, ArcEditor, ArcObjects API, ArcSDE and ArcGIS 9.1 and 9.2) and Geodatabase design and management.
  • Strong object-oriented development experience is desired. Java (Servlet) and/or .NET (2.0 and 3.0) development proficiency is a definite plus.
  • Applicants should have experience with Oracle 10g and strong SQL skills.
  • Experience with thin web-client technologies (i.e., HTML, JavaScript, AJAX) is essential, as is experience programming with Visual Basic.
  • Strong analytical skills for determining project requirements, designing a work program and documenting the results through detailed designs for the components being implemented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to complete multiple concurrent assignments with minimal supervision.

    Desired Skills

    The right fit for the position shall be solution-oriented and a creative problem solver with experience writing object-oriented program code and developing Web applications (ASP.NET). A solid understanding of database structures and mapping concepts such as projections, raster vs. vector, etc. would be helpful. An understanding of client/server technology, server architecture and networking protocols is also useful. Previous exposure to Linux is beneficial, but not essential.
